2013 – Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero
Alfonso is President of the University of Navarra in Spain, where he teaches about the Management of Media Companies. He has an accomplished history of contributions to the University of Navarra and is highly valued by his colleagues there – all of whom are dear friends as well. I’m sure most of you know that the University of Navarra has been a vital institution for the emma community since the Association was founded 10 years ago. Alfonso earned the Doctorate in Public Communications at the University of Navarra in 1988 and later, in 1996, the Diploma in Business Administration.
Alfonso has been Professor of Strategy at the Institute for Media and Entertainment in New York City. He is an acknowledged expert in strategic management. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the European Institute for the Media in Düsseldorf, Germany. He was Dean of the School of Communications at the University of Navarra from 1996 to 2005 and Director of the Master in Media Management programme from 2001 to 2006. Previously he was Vice-Dean and Professor of Media Markets Analysis at the School of Communication in the University of the Basque Country, located in Bilbao, Spain.
Alfonso has published more than fifty articles about media management and media economics in scientific journals, and is a member of several editorial boards including the Journal of Media Economics and the International Journal on Media Management. His most recent books include a co-authored work titled Media Concentration in the European Market: New Trends and Challenges that was published in 2003; The Content of Media: Quality, Profits and Competition, published in 2009; and Innovación en los medios. La ruta del cambio (with Francisco Pérez-Latre), published in 2013. He was Chairman for the consulting firm, Mediaccion, from 1998 to 2005, and today serves as a permanent consultant for important media companies in Spain.
Alfonso was among the small group of researchers, professors and scholars that met in late April 2003 in Brussels who launched emma.
