About emma

The European Media Management Association (emma) is an international not-for-profit academic organization that was founded in 2003 to support growth in media management research, scholarship and practice throughout Europe and around the world.

Who can join emma?

emma has two categories of membership: (1) individual members, who are active in media management education and research at universities, companies and other organizations, and (2) institutional members, comprising university departments, institutes and programmes, as well as media companies and other organizations, interested in media management research and education. Choosing institutional membership allows the organization to enrol up to ten individuals.

How to become a member? 

Joining the emma community is quick and easy!

Click on the members’ area item in the menu bar and opt to become a member.  

You may choose between an individual membership (1 member) and an institutional membership (5-10 members). Both subscription types are valid until the end of the running year. At the beginning of the year following your subscription, you are reminded to renew your membership. 

Payments can be made via PayPal and via a direct bank transfer – either way, your subscription starts once your payment reaches emma’s bank account and your account status has been set to “Active”. When placing a payment via Paypal, your account status changes automatically; When placing a direct payment, your status is updated by emma’s Treasurer within a week.

NB! When placing institutional memberships, it is necessary to specify the colleagues you are subscribing to. This can be done on the “Group dashboard” subpage which can be found in the dropdown menu located on the right-hand side of the webpage (where your name is).

How to renew your membership?  

Choose “Renew membership” if you wish to register the same kind of a membership as you had last year. Choose “Upgrade or change your membership” in case you want a different kind of membership than you had last year. 

FAQ 

  • Your invoices are listed under “Your membership” subpage which opens from the right-hand side dropdown menu.  
  • Go to “Change your profile” subpage where you can change your affiliation and fill in the “Additional information on invoice” box – these details will be included in your invoice once saved. 
  • Go to “Change your profile” subpage and change your contact information. As the system does not inform the administrator about these changes, please also contact the Treasurer to inform the Board. 
  • All emma memberships last until the end of the calendar year and members can only be changed when renewing the membership in the new year.  
  • Yes, you can upgrade your subscription on the “Your membership” subpage. Once you do so, your invoice is updated accordingly and you are expected to settle the difference between the initial and updated invoice.
