Prof. Dr. Leona Achtenhagen is Director of the Media, Management and Transformation Center (MMTC) at Jönköping International Business School; and Editor-in-chief of ‘Journal of Media Business Studies’.

Leona received her PhD from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and has held previous appointments at University of Queensland, Australia, Warwick Business School, UK, and the University of Bamberg, Germany.

Leona’s research focuses on aspects of entrepreneurship, strategy and organizational transformation. She is one of the most cited scholars in media management and her research has shaped how we understand media entrepreneurship.

Her contributions to the academic development of media management studies, goes beyond her role as a researcher. As Editor-in-chief of Journal of Media Business Studies, she has ‘invigorated’ the relevance and theoretical ambitions of media management as an academic field of study. Today, JOMBS is not only one of the leading journals in the field of media management studies, but also more generally among the top journals in business, management, strategy and communication.

More importantly, Leona’s commitment to emma has strengthen the inclusive community support that this association is well-known for. Whether as director of MMTC or in a more personal role, her leadership and assistance in many of our activities and initiatives is much appreciated. From hosting emma summer schools and conferences to supporting junior colleagues in emmaConnect, Leona’s eagerness is always there, both challenging and inspiring, but also always inclusive and supporting.  Leona embodies many of the characteristics that makes the emma association’s culture so unique compared to other academia associations.
