Jonas Brühl and Joachim Eigler present their paper that focuses on the challenge of declining revenues that movie exhibitors have been faced with over the last ten years. This decline makes it even more important to reduce any accruing costs. Due to the availability of a unique data set containing key performance indicators of a movie theatre, they were able to analyse the personnel deployment as a critical cost factor, which is based on a volatile forecast of the number of moviegoers and found success drivers that allow us to optimise the personnel deployment in a revenue-maximising manner.
Sylvia Chan-Olmsted presents her paper that identifies eight key AI strategic applications in the media sector, including audience content recommendations/discovery, audience engagement, augmented audience experience, message optimization, content management, content creation, audience insights, and operational automation. There are significant challenges in balancing effectiveness and efficiency, and human and AI judgement as the cognitive technology develops.
Vanessa Rahe, Christopher Buschow and Daniela Schlütz present their study which investigates the brand perception of recipients of Germany’s most popular subscription-based video-on-demand (S-VoD) services Netflix and Amazon Prime Video from a customer-centric perspective. The results indicate a more favorably media brand perception of Netflix compared to Amazon Prime Video: Netflix offers both stronger cognitive relief and higher activation than its competitor, thereby serving the personal and social self-definition more strongly.
