Dear emma members,
Whilst the primary focus of our association is to serve the needs and interests of our academic community by providing education and conducting scientific research, we should acknowledge that the unfolding war in Ukraine is a tragedy with as yet unknown human consequences.
Never before has there been such a distinction between major media outlets aligning themselves with the actions of an aggressor, and those seeking to portray reality. The power of a ‘free and unbiased’ media has never been more important and the bravery of correspondents, camera operators, producers and ordinary citizens willing to risk their lives to bring the world imagery of the ongoing catastrophe should be applauded.
Our association supports and promotes cooperation and collaborative activities in Europe and members must rise to the challenge of this difficult situation by embracing humanity and mutual understanding. There are no winners in war, only losers.
On behalf of the Executive Board, our thoughts and prayers go to all those affected by the war in Ukraine.
