Call for emma Doctoral Summer School 2023

Dear doctoral students and early-stage post-docs, seize the opportunity and apply for the emma Doctoral Summer School 2023 hosted by LUT Business School in Lappeenranta, Finland, in August 14-18. The emma Doctoral Summer School is one of the core activities of the European Media Management Association – emma – with the purpose of supporting young scholars to advance their research and careers.

The Doctoral Summer School will cover following themes:

  • Thesis/research feedback: doctoral students and early-stage post-docs (1-2 years from thedefense) will present their research and receive feedback from senior faculty and peers.
  • Early career development: e.g., building portfolio, networking in the academic community,writing for an academic journal
  • Methodological advancements: new emerging research methods and approaches
  • Making impact: Meeting with media practitioners and scholars to discuss the current topics are.

The workload of the Summer School corresponds to 4 ECTS. The participants will be asked to prepare for the Summer School by preparing a presentation of their own research and reading theses (or research plans) of other participants. We will provide more instructions closer to the Summer School. The participants will receive a certificate at the end of the Summer School. The final program of the Summer School will be adjusted according to the research topics and individual wishes of the participating doctoral students and early-stage post-docs. In addition to the LUT Business School’s own scholars, we will invite distinguished scholars from other universities to the Summer School. The European Media Management Association provides a Doctoral Summer School Grant. It aims to support PhD students and early-stage post-docs in a financially challenging situations to help them to participate at the Summer School. Two grants of up to €1,000 are offered to allow the recipient to offset registration, travel, visa, and accommodation expenses. You can find more information here.
